ERASTEEL STUBS - WARRINGTON

Erasteel Stubs utilise a total of four cooling towers on their site in Warrington. They experienced a problem with noise levels and requested us to look at providing VSD control on the cooling tower fans.

 

The customer was receiving complaints from the local residents about the noise levels especially during the night and obviously some thing needed to be done. The environment agency had also been called in about the noise issue. GT Electrical designed a full VSD control panel to control the speed of the fans on all four of the cooling towers. The VSD is controlled by temperature via a resistance thermometer.

 

This resulted in a dramatic decrease in the noise level such that there have been no further complaints about the noise level from the fans.

 

There has obviously been an added benefit of energy savings from using VSD. The energy savings were initially calculated to be around 50-65%, however the actual figures have been more like 70-75%
